After Ever Happy is set to bring Tessa and Hardin's love story to an end, but will it be a happy ending for the couple?

Based on the book series by Anna Todd, the fourth movie in the hugely popular series picks up from the cliffhanger of After We Fell. It sees Tessa (Josephine Langford) and Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) face yet more challenges to keep their relationship alive.

While it might be the final movie of the main series, After fans can be rest assured that this isn't exactly the end. Two more movies will follow After Ever Happy as we'll be getting a prequel to the series and a sequel to the fourth movie.

Before we get too far ahead of ourselves though, let's concentrate on After Ever Happy for now and, be warned, spoilers await for After We Fell if you haven't seen the movie or read the book yet.

After 4 release date: When will After Ever Happy be released?

After Ever Happy doesn't yet have a confirmed release date, but the wait might not be too long as the movie has already been filmed.

The fourth movie was filmed back-to-back with After We Fell from September-December 2020. In September 2021, director Castille Landon revealed to a fan on Twitter that she was "finishing up post" on the movie.

We already know that in the UK and France, After Ever Happy will be released on Amazon Prime Video like the third movie, while we'd expect it to get a cinema release in the US.

After We Collided and After We Fell were released in October 2020 and September 2021, respectively, so it could be that we have to wait until around September 2022 for After Ever Happy.

However, considering that the movie seems to be nearly finished, hopefully fans will get an early treat in 2022. That's purely speculation from us for now, but we'd expect an official release date soon now that the third movie is out.

After 4 cast: Who's coming back for After Ever Happy?

It wouldn't be an After movie without Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Tessa and Hardin, so they are obviously back in the fourth movie.

Given that it filmed back-to-back with the third movie, expect to see a lot of the same cast back including Chance Perdomo as Landon Gibson, Louise Lombard as Trish Daniels, Frances Turner as Karen Scott, Rob Estes as Ken Scott and Kiana Madeira as Nora.

The filming schedule also meant that the third and fourth movies had to recast characters, such as Landon and Frances, due to the original actors not being able to return as a result of scheduling conflicts.

As mentioned above, there will be two more After movies following After Ever Happy. However, the fourth movie is the final time you'll see Langford and Tiffin as the central couple because the roles will be recast for the prequel and sequel.

We're about to go into some spoilers for After We Fell, so don't read on past the photo if you don't want to know anything.

The arrival of Tessa's father in After We Collided throws more drama into Tessa and Hardin's relationship as she wants to get to know him, while Hardin isn't particularly pleased by the idea.

Hardin does some questionable stuff in order to keep Tessa around and stop her moving to Seattle for her dream job. Eventually though, he realises that he shouldn't stop Tessa using this opportunity and they agree to a long-distance relationship.

However, that's not the end of the drama as Hardin discovers that his father isn't Ken and is actually Christian Vance (Stephen Moyer), the boss of Vance Publishing where Tessa works. Awkward.

This happens after Hardin takes Tessa to London for his mother's wedding and it's here that Hardin sees her with Christian. What's worse, it seems like everyone involved – including Christian's wife – knew, but will it bring Tessa and Hardin closer together?

The synopsis for After Ever Happy confirms that it will pick up from this revelation – and that won't be the only bad news ahead for the couple.

"A revelation about the past shakes Hardin's impenetrable façade to the core – and then Tessa suffers a tragedy, putting their relationship on the brink. As the shocking truth about each of their families emerges, it's clear the two lovers are not so different from each other," it reads.

It's unclear how the fourth movie will deal with the novel's time jumps as it follows Tessa and Hardin's relationship over several years. We do know that while this is the end, the sequel will pick up from the book's epilogue where – spoiler alert – they have two children Emery and Auden.

"Emery, Auden and [cousin] Addy are quite beloved by the fans. We've all gotten a lot of inquiries about what happens with the kids," Landon told Teen Vogue.

"It's really amazing actually to see how interested the fanbase is in those characters, even though they are really only superficially introduced in the books. People have latched onto them because of their love for Hardin and Tessa."

The prequel movie will be loosely based on Todd's Before book which explored Hardin's life before Tessa and gave his perspective on events post-After. Landon is set to write and direct both movies, but it's unclear when they will arrive.
